Pittsburgh, PA – The Pittsburgh region faces dangerously cold wind chills overnight as temperatures plummet below zero. Wind chill values could drop as low as -22°F in some areas.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Pittsburgh, clear skies and weakening winds are allowing for rapid cooling. The lowest temperatures are expected to hit between 3 a.m. and 9 a.m. Tuesday. Areas like Butler, PA, and Carrollton, OH, will see wind chills ranging from -15°F to -21°F.
The NWS advises residents to limit outdoor exposure to avoid frostbite, which can occur within minutes in these conditions. Officials urge those venturing outside to dress in layers and cover exposed skin.
Communities across Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia have opened warming centers to assist vulnerable populations. Drivers should also prepare for potential vehicle issues caused by the extreme cold.
The frigid weather follows a weekend of milder conditions, marking a sharp shift in the region’s forecast. Meteorologists predict the cold snap will ease by Wednesday.
