Chicago, IL – Snow and dangerously cold temperatures are set to impact Illinois and Indiana this weekend.

An arctic air mass is expected to move into the region, bringing a mix of snow and bitterly cold conditions. Porter County, Indiana, may see minor snow accumulations from lake effect snow today and tonight. According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will plummet Saturday night into Sunday morning, with wind chills potentially reaching dangerous levels.

The cold snap will persist through midweek. Sunday through Tuesday poses the highest risk, with wind chills dropping to -20 degrees or lower during the overnight hours. Monday night into Tuesday morning is expected to be particularly frigid.

Residents are urged to take precautions against frostbite and hypothermia. Limit outdoor exposure, dress in layers, and ensure pets are sheltered from the cold. Road conditions may also be affected in areas with snowfall.

Spotter activation is not required, but residents should stay updated on local forecasts and advisories.
