Yosemite, CA – A strong winter storm is expected to hit the Sierra Nevada from Sunday afternoon through Monday evening, bringing heavy snowfall and high winds to Yosemite, Sequoia, and Kings Canyon National Parks.
According to the National Weather Service in Hanford, the storm could bring up to 18 inches of snow, with wind gusts reaching 55 mph. The most affected areas include Devils Postpile, Tuolumne Meadows, Giant Forest, and several high-elevation locations in and around the national parks.
Travel could become extremely hazardous, particularly on mountain roads near Grant Grove, Cedar Grove, and Shaver Lake. The Monday morning and evening commutes may be severely impacted, with potential road closures and whiteout conditions. Strong winds may also lead to falling trees and power outages.
Officials advise travelers to monitor forecasts and avoid unnecessary trips during the storm. Those venturing into affected areas should carry emergency supplies, including extra food, water, and warm clothing.
Residents and visitors should stay updated on weather alerts and prepare for dangerous conditions through Monday night.
