SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – A thick blanket of fog has settled over the Central Coast early Sunday, prompting a Dense Fog Advisory from the National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard through 9 a.m. The advisory covers San Luis Obispo County, Santa Barbara County’s Central Coast, and the Santa Ynez Valley, where visibility has dropped below a quarter mile in spots along Highway 101, U.S. 1, and State Route 246.
According to forecasters, calm winds and overnight cooling have created near-saturated conditions, allowing fog to form from Morro Bay to Buellton and inland toward Santa Ynez. The NWS warns that rapidly changing visibility could make travel hazardous, especially on open stretches of highway and near coastal passes where fog tends to linger through midmorning.
Motorists are urged to use headlights, reduce speed, and allow extra time for the morning commute. Drivers should also watch for moisture accumulating on roads and reduced visibility near canyon and valley floors.
Fog will lift gradually after sunrise, giving way to mostly sunny skies by late morning with afternoon highs in the upper 60s to mid-70s. Clear and calm weather will continue into early week.
