A Freeze Warning is in effect for the San Jose area and surrounding Central Coast regions from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. Tuesday, with temperatures expected to drop as low as 28 degrees. A subsequent Freeze Watch will be in place from late Tuesday night through Thursday morning, with potential lows near 30 degrees.
According to the National Weather Service, these frigid conditions could pose significant risks to unhoused populations and increase the chance of hypothermia with prolonged exposure. Additionally, frost and freeze conditions are expected to impact crops, sensitive vegetation, and outdoor plumbing.
Residents are urged to take precautions, such as protecting plants, wrapping pipes, or allowing water to drip to prevent freezing. San Jose itself is forecast to see temperatures in the mid-30s during the freeze periods.
The cold snap highlights the need for community preparedness, especially in vulnerable populations, as temperatures dip significantly below seasonal averages.
