San Francisco, CA – Strong winds are set to whip through San Francisco beginning Wednesday afternoon, bringing gusts up to 33 mph and prompting caution for drivers, cyclists, and ferry commuters.

According to the National Weather Service, winds will increase to 21 to 26 mph Wednesday afternoon, with gusts reaching 33 mph into the evening. Thursday will stay breezy, with gusts up to 25 mph before calming overnight. The windy stretch will be paired with mostly clear skies and rising temperatures, reaching a high near 78°F on Friday.

Breezy conditions will be most noticeable along the coast and in higher elevations, including Twin Peaks and the Golden Gate Bridge. Drivers should be prepared for potential crosswinds, especially on exposed roadways like I-280 and Highway 1. PG&E has not issued any wind-related outage warnings, but residents should charge devices and secure outdoor items as a precaution.

This midweek pattern marks a shift from early-week clouds to drier, windier air — typical of late May in the Bay Area. Wind gusts could impact ferry service and light rail, so travelers should check for delays.

Winds are expected to ease by Friday night, with mild, sunny weather continuing through the weekend.
