San Francisco, CA – Bay Area residents should prepare for unsettled weather heading into the weekend, with a high surf advisory in effect along with rain and patchy fog expected. The National Weather Service forecasts periodic rain, gusty winds, and surf conditions that could make travel and outdoor activities challenging.

According to the National Weather Service, rain chances in San Francisco are at 50% today, diminishing slightly to 40% tonight. Temperatures will reach a high of 62 degrees Thursday, dipping to a low of 48 degrees overnight. Drivers should exercise caution on roadways as fog could reduce visibility, especially during the morning commute. Gusts could reach up to 23 mph, potentially impacting higher-elevation roads and bridges.

On Friday, the rain threat lessens, with only a 20% chance of showers and mostly sunny skies. However, wind gusts may remain strong, reaching up to 21 mph. Coastal areas, including Ocean Beach and other popular destinations, are under a high surf advisory, with large waves expected to create hazardous conditions. Residents and visitors are advised to avoid walking near the surf line and to heed warnings from local authorities.

The weekend offers some respite, with Saturday predicted to be sunny and calm, reaching 62 degrees. However, rain likely returns on Sunday, with a 60% chance of precipitation, primarily in the afternoon. Winds are expected to ease on Sunday, making it a safer day for travel, though rain showers could impact late-day activities.

For those planning outdoor events or travel, Friday and Saturday are optimal times before Sunday’s likely rainfall. Residents are encouraged to monitor local weather updates as conditions could change.
