San Antonio, TX – Severe storms could drench parts of San Antonio with up to 2 inches of rain by midnight Friday, bringing the threat of lightning, hail, and localized flooding across Bexar County.

According to the National Weather Service in Austin/San Antonio, scattered thunderstorms will begin after 1 p.m. Friday, with the strongest storms expected in the evening. Some cells may produce damaging winds and heavy downpours, especially along the I-35 corridor. A 70% chance of precipitation remains in place through early Saturday, with the heaviest rain possible between 7 p.m. and 1 a.m.

Areas south and east of the city, including Brooks City Base and China Grove, could see ponding on roadways and brief power outages. Winds may gust up to 20 mph as the storm system shifts northeast overnight. Temperatures will drop into the mid-60s as storms move out by dawn.

Residents are urged to avoid low-lying roads and to charge electronic devices ahead of possible outages. While the weekend looks drier, more storms are likely by late Monday.

Thunderstorm warnings may be issued later Friday. Check for updates and prepare for sudden changes in conditions.
