Redding, Calif. – Dangerous heat is baking Northern California Monday, with temperatures soaring past 100 degrees across the Sacramento Valley and surrounding foothills. Residents from Redding to Paradise are under a Heat Advisory until 11 p.m., with little overnight relief expected.

According to the National Weather Service in Sacramento, daytime highs between 100°F and 105°F, coupled with warm lows in the mid-70s, will pose a Major HeatRisk, especially for those working outdoors or lacking access to air conditioning. The advisory covers Shasta Lake Area, Northern Sacramento Valley, and the Northeast Foothills, including Red Bluff and Shasta Dam.

Officials warn that heat-related illnesses can develop quickly, particularly during strenuous activity or prolonged sun exposure. Area waterways, still cold and fast-moving from snowmelt, add another hazard for those trying to cool off. “The rivers may feel refreshing, but they’re deceptively dangerous this time of year,” the weather service cautioned.

Residents are urged to drink plenty of water, limit outdoor activity, use fans or AC, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Those seeking relief should avoid swimming in rivers and instead visit designated cooling centers or shaded public spaces.

The Heat Advisory expires at 11 p.m. Monday, but more summer heat is expected this week. Stay tuned to local updates as conditions evolve.
