Sacramento, California – Triple-digit temperatures will slam Northern California by Friday, bringing an early-season heat wave that could push Sacramento to 104°F. A National Weather Service Extreme Heat Watch is now in effect for the Sacramento and Northern San Joaquin Valleys from Friday morning through Saturday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Sacramento, dangerously hot conditions will stretch from Chico to Modesto, with highs between 99°F and 109°F and limited overnight cooling. A Major HeatRisk designation has been issued, signaling a heightened threat of heat-related illness, especially for outdoor workers and vulnerable groups.

Cities including Redding, Stockton, and Marysville should prepare for peak heat by Friday afternoon, with conditions worsened by stagnant air and limited overnight relief (lows only in the mid-60s to 70s). Residents are urged to avoid outdoor activities between 12–6 p.m., stay hydrated, and check on elderly neighbors.

Waterways remain cold despite the heat—fast-moving rivers like the American and Feather remain dangerous for swimmers. Authorities stress not to seek relief in rivers, as fatalities often occur under these deceptive conditions.

On Wednesday, expect mostly sunny skies and a high of 89°F, warming to 95°F on Thursday. Friday will bring the most extreme heat. Saturday stays hot near 102°F, before easing slightly Sunday to the high 80s. Monday brings partial clouds and a high of 87°F.

Heat warnings could escalate later this week. Stay updated via weather.gov or local alerts.
