Wilmington, NC – North Carolina residents and visitors are advised to remain vigilant as weather conditions pose several threats along the coast and inland. The National Weather Service has issued warnings regarding high rip currents, particularly affecting beaches north of Cape Fear. As Hurricane Ernesto’s swells start to subside, the risk of powerful rip currents remains, urging beachgoers to avoid the water. Locations such as Surf City, Wrightsville Beach, and Topsail Beach are under high-risk advisories, where entering the water is deemed dangerous for everyone.
According to the National Weather Service, southern beaches like Oak Island and Bald Head Island are experiencing moderate risks, with only experienced swimmers advised to enter the surf. The weather forecast for Monday indicates that these conditions are expected to persist throughout the day.
In addition to coastal warnings, inland areas of Eastern North Carolina are facing the possibility of strong to severe thunderstorms on Monday afternoon and evening. The National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City highlights the threat of damaging wind gusts and isolated tornadoes from 2 p.m. to midnight. As cooler and drier weather is expected later in the week, residents are encouraged to stay informed through multiple sources and heed any weather alerts.
With temperatures peaking in the upper 80s, North Carolinians should prepare for a potentially volatile weather pattern before more stable conditions return later this week.
