Providence, R.I. – Showers are expected to sweep through Rhode Island on Thursday, bringing a 70% chance of rain to Providence and likely delays along I-95 by the afternoon commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Norton, showers will begin after 3 p.m. Thursday and continue into the evening, with southeast winds between 6 to 10 mph. Rainfall may total up to a quarter inch. Thursday night stays damp, with lingering showers likely before midnight and lows near 56°F. Winds will turn northwest around 5 mph.
Drivers should slow down on wet roads and allow extra travel time, especially on major routes like I-195 and I-95 near downtown Providence. If possible, delay travel during peak downpours. The Rhode Island Department of Transportation has not issued alerts yet but urges caution during sudden weather changes.
The soggy trend will linger. Friday stays mostly cloudy with highs around 74°F, and a 50% chance of rain returns Saturday morning. Saturday’s high hits 70°F, but wet roads and slow traffic are expected again with a 70% chance of showers through the day and into Saturday night.
Sunday clears out with sun returning and highs near 69°F, making for a much drier and more comfortable close to the weekend. Monday and Tuesday continue the early summer feel with mostly sunny skies and highs in the low 70s.
