Providence, R.I. – Expect a soggy start to the weekend across Rhode Island, as spring storms roll in with thunder and steady rain beginning Friday.

According to the National Weather Service, light showers may begin early Friday morning, but the main system arrives Friday night with a chance of thunderstorms. Gusty winds from the southwest up to 13 mph and wet roads could pose hazards during the evening commute along I-95 and Route 6.

Saturday stays unsettled, with a 50% chance of precipitation and partly sunny skies turning stormy by afternoon. Rain could be heavy at times, especially between noon and 6 p.m. Residents with outdoor plans should prepare for possible delays, wet fields, and traffic backups. By Sunday, conditions will begin to improve with only a 40% chance of lingering showers. Temperatures will cool slightly, with highs near 63°F and calmer northwest winds offering relief after the unsettled stretch.

Looking ahead into next week, Monday appears dry and seasonable, followed by more showers Tuesday and Wednesday.
