Providence, RI – Rhode Island will face a soaking start to Tuesday as widespread heavy rain and thunderstorms roll through the Providence area, potentially snarling the morning commute and flooding low-lying streets.

According to the National Weather Service, Tuesday’s rainfall begins before 11 a.m. and continues steadily throughout the day. Some storms may produce localized flooding, especially near poor drainage areas along the I-95 corridor. Fog and gusty winds up to 9 mph will reduce visibility and contribute to difficult travel conditions. The chance of rain stands at 100%, with totals reaching between 0.25 and 0.75 inches.

By Tuesday night, showers will persist with continued patchy fog and damp conditions through early Wednesday. Rain chances taper slightly by midweek but remain elevated at 50% through Wednesday morning.

Residents are urged to avoid flooded intersections and secure drains around their homes. If driving, use headlights in fog and allow extra time for travel.

Five-Day Outlook for Providence:

  • Tuesday: Rain and thunderstorms likely, high near 65°F.
  • Wednesday: Morning showers possible, high 69°F.
  • Thursday: Mostly sunny with a high of 70°F.
  • Friday: Spotty afternoon showers, high 54°F.
  • Saturday: Mostly sunny, chance of isolated showers. High near 62°F.
