Boston, MA – Streetlights flicker against restless tree limbs as the wind begins to build across coastal Massachusetts this morning. The National Weather Service in Boston/Norton has issued a High Wind Watch for much of eastern Massachusetts, northern Connecticut, and Rhode Island, where gusts could reach 60 mph by late tonight into early Thursday.

Forecasters warn that the strongest winds will hit after sunset, sweeping east with a fast-moving cold front. Expect widespread gusts between 25 and 35 mph, with isolated higher bursts capable of toppling tree limbs or bringing down power lines. Travel on elevated roadways such as I-93, Route 3, and the Mass Pike could be difficult for high-profile vehicles. Residents are urged to secure outdoor furniture and prepare for possible power disruptions through Thursday morning.

According to the weather service, conditions will improve by midday Thursday as the storm exits the region. Skies will turn sunny, but brisk west winds may continue to gust near 45 mph into the afternoon. Temperatures will stay cooler, with highs in the low 50s across Greater Boston and the South Shore.

Friday brings calmer weather, setting up a dry stretch to start the weekend. However, another system may brush southern New England late Saturday into Sunday, bringing a chance of rain and a notable November chill. Behind it, long-range models hint at the season’s first Arctic dip across the Northeast next week — a potential early preview of winter just ahead of Veterans Day.
