Albany, N.Y. – Heavy rain and isolated thunderstorms could drench parts of the Capital Region by Saturday morning, bringing up to half an inch of rainfall and potential disruptions to early weekend travel.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, rain is likely to begin after 2 a.m. Saturday, with stronger showers and possible thunderstorms moving through between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Rainfall amounts are expected to range from a quarter to a half inch, with higher totals in isolated areas.

Communities including Albany, Troy, and Rensselaer should prepare for reduced visibility, slick roads, and possible delays on I-787 and Route 4. Winds will increase to 10 mph by late morning, and while severe weather isn’t expected, brief downpours and lightning could impact outdoor plans.

Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor items, avoid low-lying areas during heavier rain, and check for updates before traveling.

Chance of showers continues into Saturday night before drier, partly sunny conditions return Sunday. Additional advisories may be issued if thunderstorms intensify.
