Omaha, NE – Strong winds and low humidity will create dangerous fire conditions across parts of northeast Nebraska Saturday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Omaha, a Red Flag Warning remains in effect from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. CDT Saturday for Knox, Antelope, and Pierce counties. South winds ranging from 20 to 25 mph, with gusts reaching 35 mph, combined with relative humidity as low as 21 percent, could rapidly spread any fires that ignite.

The warning underscores an elevated risk of wildfire development due to the dry and windy conditions. Officials strongly advise against outdoor burning during the warning period.

Nebraska’s early spring season often brings fire-prone conditions, especially in rural areas with dry vegetation. Saturday’s weather pattern amplifies this risk, and local fire departments remain on alert for possible flare-ups.

Residents are urged to secure loose flammable materials and avoid activities that could spark a fire, such as grilling or using machinery that generates heat or sparks.

The Red Flag Warning highlights the ongoing need for fire awareness during the region’s dry season. If you see smoke or fire, contact emergency services immediately.

The alert will expire at 8 p.m. Saturday, but officials recommend continued caution if dry conditions persist into Sunday.
