Eureka, CA – A flood advisory remains in effect through 3 a.m. Saturday as heavy rains continue to pound Northern California. Residents along U.S. 101 and surrounding areas face hazardous driving conditions as saturated grounds increase flooding risks.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), 1 to 3 additional inches of rain are expected overnight. Combined with heavy rainfall over the past 48 hours, the conditions heighten the likelihood of minor road flooding, swollen streams, and possible mudslides. Wind gusts of up to 60 mph are predicted, making travel treacherous. Officials advise residents to stay home if possible and avoid flooded roadways.

Rain is forecast to continue throughout Saturday, with high winds tapering off in the afternoon. However, persistent showers may bring another quarter-inch of precipitation. Sunday and Monday will see temperatures in the mid-50s, with steady rainfall likely to complicate Thanksgiving travel plans.

The NWS also warned drivers to be cautious on rural roads with low-lying drainage, particularly near Arcata and Fortuna. Additional delays are anticipated on U.S. 101 due to standing water and localized flooding.

As the week progresses, some clearing is expected on Tuesday, but rain is set to return Wednesday, with a chance of partly sunny skies for Thanksgiving Day.

Residents should monitor weather updates, secure outdoor objects, and avoid unnecessary travel. For immediate alerts, visit weather.gov/eka.
