PADUCAH, Kentucky – A round of winter weather is possible Monday night across the Quad State, bringing a mix of snow and freezing rain that could leave roads slick by early Tuesday. Even small amounts of ice or slushy snow may create trouble for morning commuters as colder air settles in overnight.

According to the National Weather Service, light mixed precipitation is expected to develop Monday evening and continue into the overnight hours. While uncertainty remains high, several areas — including Paducah, Cape Girardeau, Evansville, and portions of southern Illinois and western Kentucky — hold a meaningful chance of picking up an inch or more of snow. Forecast guidance also shows the potential for pockets of freezing rain to briefly mix in, especially north of the Ohio River.

Travel impacts are possible where snow becomes steady or where freezing rain briefly coats elevated surfaces. Roads that remain wet late Monday could turn slushy or slick toward daybreak Tuesday, particularly on bridges and untreated secondary routes. Communities such as Madisonville, Poplar Bluff, and Marion may see the first signs of minor issues if heavier bands develop.

Forecasters note that the mixed-precipitation nature of this system increases uncertainty, and confidence in snowfall amounts will improve as Monday approaches. A broader area of wintry weather potential may emerge if colder air deepens across the region.

More updates are expected through the weekend as the setup becomes clearer.
