Davenport, IA – A sharp drop in temperatures is set to hit Illinois and the Quad Cities region this weekend, with wind chills plunging as low as 30 below zero. After a brief warm-up into the 40s on Friday, an arctic front will move in, bringing extreme cold by Saturday night.

According to the National Weather Service, Friday will start mild and breezy, with highs reaching 44 degrees. Winds could gust up to 30 mph. By Saturday, however, temperatures will nosedive into the teens, accompanied by subzero wind chills ranging from 10 to 25 below zero.

Residents are urged to limit outdoor exposure starting Saturday night, as frostbite can occur in minutes with such low wind chills. Local emergency services recommend preparing vehicles with blankets and emergency kits in case of breakdowns on icy roads.

Sunday will bring bitterly cold conditions, with a high near 7 degrees and wind chills hovering between 15 to 30 below zero. Sunday night’s low will reach -5 degrees. Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday will be equally frigid, with a high of only 5 degrees and a nighttime low near -6.

For those planning to travel, the arctic air could lead to icy conditions on highways, including I-80 and I-74. Motorists are encouraged to check road conditions before heading out and pack extra supplies.

The cold snap is expected to last through midweek, with slightly warmer highs near 11 degrees by Tuesday. Stay informed by monitoring updates from the National Weather Service and preparing for dangerously cold conditions.
