Illinois – Dense fog is blanketing portions of Illinois and Iowa today, reducing visibility to a quarter mile or less, with travel conditions hazardous through Monday morning. By Tuesday evening, forecasters predict a chance of rain and snow, marking a shift to colder temperatures mid-week.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in the Quad Cities, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. Monday for areas across northwest Illinois, northeast Missouri, and eastern Iowa. Drivers should slow down, use low-beam headlights, and allow extra following distance to navigate reduced visibility on major routes, including I-80 and I-88. Visibility is expected to improve after mid-morning as fog clears, giving way to sunny skies.
Five-Day Outlook:
• Monday: Patchy dense fog early, then mostly cloudy with highs around 41°F. Light south winds shifting west later in the day.
• Tuesday: Partly sunny and mild with highs near 40°F, followed by increasing clouds Tuesday night. A system could bring rain and snow, with temperatures dropping to 30°F.
• Wednesday: Partly sunny and colder with highs in the mid-30s. Overnight lows dip to 18°F.
• Thursday: Rain and snow chances remain north of I-80 early, with highs between 32-41°F.
• Friday: Dry and cold to end the work week, with highs only reaching the low 30s.
Residents should prepare for slippery roads and changing conditions by late Tuesday. Stay updated on local forecasts as precipitation totals and snowfall zones could shift. Travelers are urged to monitor road conditions through the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and NWS alerts.
