Quad Cities, IA/IL – A shift in weather conditions across eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois will bring a mix of chilly overnight lows, warming daytime temperatures, and an increased fire risk by Friday. Residents are advised to prepare for temperature swings and heightened wildfire concerns.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Quad Cities, Thursday night will see lows between 29 and 33 degrees with some cloud cover developing late. By Friday, warming southwest winds will push temperatures into the mid-50s in northern areas and lower 60s in the south. However, these same winds, combined with dry vegetation and ongoing arid conditions, will contribute to an elevated fire danger by Friday afternoon.

The NWS warns that gusty southwest winds, mild temperatures, and dry conditions will increase the threat of fire spread if a blaze ignites. Outdoor burning is not recommended, and residents should exercise caution with heavy equipment and cigarette disposal to prevent accidental fires.

Rain chances return by Friday evening, with a 20% to 40% likelihood of scattered showers. Friday night temperatures will drop to between 24 and 32 degrees, followed by cooler highs ranging from 47 to 60 degrees on Saturday.

Residents should stay updated with local weather alerts and take necessary precautions against fire risks as conditions evolve through the weekend.
