Rock Island, Illinois – Dense fog blanketed the Quad Cities region early Sunday, dropping visibility to a quarter-mile or less and creating hazardous driving conditions for morning commuters.
According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, the Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 8 a.m. across parts of eastern Iowa and western Illinois, including Davenport, Moline, Rock Island, and Bettendorf. Drivers are urged to use low beam headlights and allow extra travel time.
The fog rolled in overnight and is expected to gradually lift mid-morning. Affected highways include I-80, I-74, and local roadways in Scott, Rock Island, Henry, and Muscatine Counties. Live DOT cameras showed near-zero visibility near I-80 and Brady Street as of 4 a.m.
Safety officials recommend slowing down, increasing following distance, and avoiding high-beam headlights, which can reflect off fog and worsen visibility. Those with early commutes should remain alert and be prepared for sudden drops in visibility.
Conditions should improve after 8 a.m., but localized fog pockets may linger in river valleys. Updates will be issued if visibility worsens again.
