Bayamón, PR – A flash flood warning has been issued for Bayamón and Toa Baja, Puerto Rico, as heavy rainfall continues to inundate the region early Friday morning.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in San Juan, Doppler radar detected between three and six inches of rain already fallen in the warned area, with an additional two inches possible. The warning remains in effect until 4:30 a.m. AST, as life-threatening flash flooding is ongoing.
The NWS has urged residents to avoid flooded roads, emphasizing that most flood-related fatalities occur in vehicles. Low-lying areas, urban streets, and highways are particularly at risk of significant flooding.
Local emergency services are monitoring conditions closely and advise the public to stay indoors and avoid travel unless absolutely necessary. Residents witnessing severe flooding are encouraged to report it to local authorities for proper documentation and response.
The warning comes as Puerto Rico experiences an active rainy period, increasing the likelihood of localized flooding. Nighttime conditions make it especially difficult to assess flood dangers, and officials stress heightened caution for residents in affected areas.
