Pueblo, Colorado – Scattered thunderstorms are set to move through southern Colorado this afternoon, with gusty winds and dangerous lightning expected to develop along the mountains and spread eastward by late day.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, strong storms will form over the higher terrain early this afternoon and shift into the high valleys and adjacent plains by mid to late afternoon. The greatest risk lies in wind gusts topping 50 mph and frequent lightning strikes, especially near the I-25 corridor from Trinidad through Colorado Springs.

Temperatures will reach into the 80s and low 90s across the plains, including Pueblo (84°F), La Junta (94°F), and Lamar (92°F), while higher terrain areas like Alamosa and Salida will stay in the 60s and 70s. Storms may cause rapid weather changes and brief road visibility issues along U.S. 50 and Highway 160.

Residents are advised to secure outdoor items, avoid open fields during lightning, and monitor alerts throughout the afternoon. Those in elevated areas should remain especially cautious through early evening.

More storms are possible through Wednesday night, with additional updates expected as activity evolves.
