Pueblo, Colorado – Scattered thunderstorms and gusty winds could sweep across eastern Colorado Saturday afternoon, bringing marginally severe weather and hazardous travel conditions to the plains.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, storms are expected to develop along the mountains, Raton Mesa, and Palmer Divide early this afternoon and move eastward through the evening. A few storms may reach strong to severe levels, with wind gusts near 60 mph posing the greatest threat.
Cities including Pueblo, La Junta, Lamar, and Colorado Springs fall within a Level 1 (Marginal Risk) zone for severe storms. Afternoon highs will range from the upper 70s in the mountains to near 97°F across the southeast plains, adding instability to fuel storm development. Rainfall may be locally heavy at times, especially in areas east of I-25.
Drivers should avoid flooded roads, secure outdoor items, and remain alert for changing conditions into tonight. Power outages are possible in areas hit by stronger wind gusts.
This marks another typical summer pattern for southern Colorado, but strong wind-driven storms have caused isolated damage in past July events.
Storm activity may persist through late evening, with additional alerts possible. Residents should monitor NOAA Weather Radio or local outlets for updates.
