Wilmington, OH – A major winter storm is set to bring snow, sleet, and icy conditions to parts of Ohio and northern Kentucky starting Sunday afternoon. Heavy snowfall could disrupt travel along the I-70 corridor, with accumulation totals reaching up to 9 inches in some areas.

According to the National Weather Service, snow is expected to begin Sunday afternoon and intensify into the evening, bringing sleet and freezing rain overnight. By Monday morning, total snow accumulation in southeast Ohio could reach between 5 to 9 inches, with additional ice accumulation of up to a tenth of an inch.

Hazardous travel conditions are likely, especially during the Monday morning and evening commutes. Drivers should exercise extreme caution and avoid non-essential travel. Local emergency officials recommend keeping a winter safety kit in vehicles, including flashlights, blankets, and water.

The storm will also bring gusty winds of up to 29 mph, further reducing visibility and making roads slick. Portions of southeast Indiana and northern Kentucky are also expected to experience similar conditions. Power outages may occur due to ice buildup on power lines.

Following the storm, temperatures are forecast to plunge, with lows in the single digits Monday night. Tuesday and Wednesday will remain cold, with highs only in the low 20s.

Residents are advised to monitor updates from local authorities and weather services, including ohgo.com for road conditions.
