Pittsburgh, PA – Temperatures across western Pennsylvania will climb sharply Thursday, with afternoon highs reaching up to 90 degrees in some areas—raising the risk of heat exhaustion and heat stroke for those spending extended time outdoors.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, highs of 88°F to 90°F are expected across much of the region Thursday, with Pittsburgh, Washington, and Weirton among the hottest spots. The alert, issued at 12:21 p.m. Wednesday, urges residents to limit strenuous activity during peak heating hours and watch for symptoms like dizziness, heavy sweating, or confusion.

Cities like Zanesville, OH (87°F), Butler (86°F), and Latrobe (86°F) will also experience high heat, while areas such as Oil City and Clarion are forecast to top out at 83–84°F. Officials recommend staying indoors during the hottest part of the day, hydrating frequently, and checking on vulnerable individuals—especially children and the elderly.

If signs of heat illness develop, move to a cooler area, sip water, and loosen clothing. In cases of confusion or unconsciousness, call 911 immediately.

Temperatures will remain elevated into Friday before gradually cooling. More advisories may be issued if the heat persists or intensifies.
