Phoenix, Ariz. – Phoenix residents face another dangerous stretch of triple-digit temperatures this week as an Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect through 8 p.m. Friday. Afternoon highs are expected to climb between 109 and 114 degrees, according to the National Weather Service in Phoenix.
The warning covers the entire metro area, including Glendale, Scottsdale, Mesa, Chandler, Avondale, Goodyear, and Queen Creek. Officials caution that heat-related illnesses such as cramps, exhaustion, and stroke are more likely during this period. Maricopa County residents are urged to dial 2-1-1 for free access to cooling centers, transportation, and water.
Public safety agencies recommend avoiding outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours. If outside, wear lightweight clothing, drink extra water, and take frequent breaks in shade or air-conditioned areas. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration stresses that workers should reschedule strenuous tasks to early morning or evening whenever possible.
The intense heat may be briefly interrupted by isolated thunderstorms Thursday and Friday, though the storms bring little relief as overnight lows remain in the 90s.
Warnings remain in effect until Friday evening, and officials caution that additional advisories could follow if the heat lingers into the weekend.
