Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect across the Philadelphia region tonight through Sunday afternoon as a steady, impactful snowfall delivers 3 to 5 inches of snow, creating hazardous travel conditions.
Snow continues to overspread the area this evening and will intensify overnight, with the most significant accumulation expected between late evening and mid-morning Sunday. Philadelphia, Delaware County, Eastern Montgomery, Eastern Chester, and Lower Bucks counties are all expected to land solidly in the 3–5 inch range. In New Jersey, Camden, Gloucester, and northwestern Burlington counties will see similar totals.
According to the National Weather Service office in Mount Holly, the warning remains in effect until 1 p.m. Sunday. Snowfall rates may become moderate at times overnight, allowing roads to deteriorate quickly. Bridges and overpasses will ice over first, making travel especially dangerous during the early Sunday morning window.
PennDOT and NJDOT crews are treating major corridors including I-95, I-76, I-476, Route 1, Route 202, and the Pennsylvania Turnpike, but officials warn that snow may accumulate faster than plows can clear at times. Secondary roads and residential streets are expected to remain snow-covered well into Sunday morning.
Travel impacts will be highest overnight and through mid-morning Sunday. Anyone heading out early should expect snow-covered lanes, reduced visibility, and longer travel times. Officials strongly encourage delaying non-essential travel. If travel is unavoidable, drivers should slow down, increase following distance, and carry emergency supplies including food, water, and a flashlight. Road conditions can be checked by dialing 511.
Snow will gradually taper late Sunday morning into early afternoon, but lingering slick spots may persist even after snowfall ends as temperatures hover near freezing.
