Mount Holly, New Jersey – Cold January air remains in place across the Delaware Valley and surrounding regions Sunday, with a brief window for early-morning flurries before skies gradually brighten later in the day.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, a few light snow showers or flurries may develop early Sunday morning, mainly north and west of the Interstate 95 corridor. Any snowfall will be brief and light, with no accumulation expected. Cloud cover will gradually thin through the late morning and afternoon, allowing for increasing sunshine across much of eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and northeastern Maryland.
Despite improving sky conditions, temperatures will remain chilly. Afternoon highs are expected to range from the lower to mid-30s across the Poconos and northern New Jersey, to the mid- to upper 30s across the Philadelphia metro, southern New Jersey, and Delmarva. A strengthening northwest breeze of 10 to 20 mph will add an extra bite to the cold, making it feel colder than the thermometer suggests.
Cities including Philadelphia, Trenton, Allentown, Reading, Wilmington, Atlantic City, and Dover will all experience similar cold and breezy conditions. Roads are expected to remain mainly dry after the early morning hours, though drivers should remain alert for isolated slick spots where flurries occur.
Cold weather continues into tonight, with quiet conditions expected as high pressure builds in. A gradual warmup is anticipated as the new workweek begins, but winter chill remains firmly in control for the rest of Sunday.
