Philadelphia, PA – Thanksgiving week in Pennsylvania begins with a mix of rain and rapidly dropping temperatures that could disrupt holiday travel. The National Weather Service warns of two rain systems expected this week, the first arriving Tuesday and the second on Thanksgiving Day. Travelers along major roadways like I-95 and I-76 should plan for wet conditions and possible delays.
According to the National Weather Service, Tuesday’s rain will begin midday and could last into the evening, with temperatures reaching a high of 63°F before dropping into the mid-30s overnight. Wednesday, traditionally one of the busiest travel days of the year, will remain dry but cooler, with highs in the mid-50s.
Rain returns early Thursday morning, potentially impacting Thanksgiving parades and gatherings. The heaviest rainfall is expected by midday, accompanied by highs around 51°F. Overnight, a cold front will push temperatures into the upper 30s, setting the stage for a sharp freeze.
Black Friday will be markedly colder, with daytime highs struggling to reach the mid-40s and lows plummeting into the 20s. By Saturday, residents can expect dry but chilly conditions, with highs near 39°F.
Officials urge residents to stay updated on local forecasts, particularly if traveling during peak hours. Keep emergency kits in vehicles, as sudden temperature drops may create hazardous road conditions.
Plan ahead to avoid delays and dress warmly for Friday’s plunge in temperatures.
