Philadelphia, PA – Strong thunderstorms could rattle the Philadelphia region starting Saturday afternoon, with damaging winds and flash flooding possible through early next week.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, there’s a 50–90% chance of thunderstorms Saturday afternoon, with some storms potentially turning severe and producing wind gusts strong enough to bring down branches or power lines. Rain chances continue through Tuesday, with scattered downpours and thunder expected across the region.
Communities in southeastern Pennsylvania and South Jersey—including Reading, Allentown, Trenton, and Atlantic City—could see between 1 and 3 inches of rain by Tuesday night. Localized areas may receive more than 4 inches, especially during repeated rounds of heavy rain from Sunday into early next week. The risk of flash flooding will increase where these storms stall or repeatedly hit the same areas.
Drivers are urged to watch for ponding on roadways and avoid driving through flooded streets. Those in flood-prone areas should have a plan in place, charge mobile devices, and monitor alerts from local emergency management offices.
The unsettled weather pattern will persist into midweek. Additional watches or warnings may be issued if Saturday’s storms intensify or if rainfall totals climb beyond projections.
