State College, PA – A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for Cambria and Somerset counties, with heavy, wet snow and gusty winds expected to impact the area starting Thursday afternoon and lasting through Saturday evening.

The National Weather Service predicts snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches, with wind gusts reaching 40 mph. The combination of strong winds and heavy snow could cause tree limbs to break, leading to power outages. Hazardous travel conditions are likely, particularly during Thursday evening and Friday morning commutes.

Residents in higher elevations, including portions of Westmoreland, Fayette, and Indiana counties, are also under a Winter Storm Watch. These areas could see similar snowfall totals and wind gusts up to 35 mph, further complicating travel.

Officials recommend monitoring forecasts, preparing emergency kits, and delaying travel plans, if possible. Those who must travel should take precautions, including carrying blankets, flashlights, and other essential supplies.

The Winter Storm Watch highlights the potential for dangerous conditions across much of western Pennsylvania, making it critical for residents to stay informed as the storm approaches. Updates are available through the National Weather Service and local emergency management agencies.
