MOUNT POCONO, Pa. – Strong northwest winds could batter the Poconos beginning Wednesday evening, with gusts nearing 60 mph expected to sweep across Carbon and Monroe Counties through early Thursday. The National Weather Service in Mount Holly issued a High Wind Watch Monday afternoon, warning that conditions could quickly turn hazardous for drivers and residents.
According to the National Weather Service, sustained winds between 20 and 30 mph with higher gusts are likely, peaking overnight Wednesday into Thursday morning. The agency cautioned that falling trees and power lines could lead to scattered outages, and high-profile vehicles should avoid open roadways during the most intense gusts.
Local officials urge residents to secure outdoor items, charge electronic devices, and avoid unnecessary travel during the height of the wind event. Utility crews are preparing for potential outages, particularly in elevated or rural areas where winds tend to intensify.
