Philadelphia, PA – Pennsylvania experienced a warmer and drier April than usual in 2025, as temperatures climbed above average across most regions. However, a few intense rainfall events, particularly on April 12, disrupted the dry trend, leading to significant one-day precipitation totals.

According to the National Weather Service, April temperatures were notably higher than the 1991-2020 averages. Allentown recorded an average temperature of 52.2°F, which is 0.4°F above normal, while Philadelphia’s average reached 56.6°F, a 2.1°F increase compared to the historical mean. Mount Pocono experienced the largest jump, with temperatures averaging 46.1°F, 2.5°F above its typical April conditions.

Precipitation totals were below average for much of the state. Allentown saw a deficit of 0.5 inches, while Atlantic City’s rainfall was down by 0.3 inches. Philadelphia and Georgetown also recorded slight drops in rainfall compared to the usual April amounts. Notably, the heaviest rainfall occurred on April 12, when Allentown received a remarkable 2.80 inches in a single day, setting a new daily record for the month.

The state also saw a brief warm spell, with temperatures peaking at 81°F in Allentown and 86°F in Atlantic City, both surpassing their historical April highs. The highest temperatures in Mount Pocono reached 83°F, well above the area’s typical monthly maximum.

While Pennsylvania’s April 2025 saw warmer than usual temperatures, the dry conditions were briefly interrupted by heavy rain, underscoring the variability of spring weather. As the month concludes, residents can expect to see more frequent shifts in weather patterns heading into the summer.
