State College, PA – A winter weather advisory has been issued for McKean and Warren counties, warning residents of lake effect snow beginning Tuesday afternoon. Forecasters predict slick road conditions as snow accumulations create hazardous travel across the region.

According to the National Weather Service, the advisory will take effect at 1 p.m. Tuesday and remain active until 1 a.m. Thursday. Snow totals in McKean County are expected to range between 2 and 4 inches, while Warren County could see up to 6 inches. These accumulations will primarily impact bridges, overpasses, and untreated surfaces, increasing risks for drivers during the Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning commutes.

Meteorologists warn that visibility could vary drastically due to shifting snow bands, which may create sudden and unpredictable road conditions. The service recommends slowing down, using caution while driving, and being prepared for rapid weather changes.

Residents are advised to watch for icy surfaces when walking on stairs, sidewalks, and driveways. Conditions could cause slips, falls, or injuries.

The National Weather Service emphasizes that travel should be approached with extra caution during this period. Drivers should allow additional time for commutes and avoid sudden braking or acceleration on snowy roads.

Lake effect snow often brings rapidly changing conditions, with heavy snow in one area and clear skies a short distance away. Stay informed of updates through local weather channels or by visiting weather.gov/StateCollege.
