State College, PA — Thunderstorms and gusty winds are forecast to hit State College Tuesday afternoon, with colder air following and patchy frost expected Wednesday morning. The National Weather Service warns residents to prepare for potential disruptions to travel and outdoor activities during this spring weather alert.

According to the National Weather Service, Tuesday’s high near 53°F will be met with showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m., driven by southwest winds up to 18 mph and gusts reaching 37 mph. Rainfall could total up to a quarter inch. These conditions may lead to slick roads and limited visibility during the evening commute, especially on PA Route 322.

By Tuesday night, wind direction will shift northwest with gusts still reaching 29 mph. Patchy frost is expected after 2 a.m. Wednesday, with temperatures dropping to a low near 31°F. Sensitive plants should be protected, and outdoor water systems should be monitored.

Wednesday will be dry and cooler with a high near 44°F. Thursday brings a brief warming trend with partly sunny skies and a high of 56°F. However, rain chances return Friday into Saturday, with possible thunderstorms Saturday afternoon and highs nearing 70°F.
