Pittsburgh, PA – A new wave of showers and thunderstorms is expected to impact Western Pennsylvania and Eastern Ohio starting Friday night, bringing the potential for severe weather and flooding through early next week.
According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, the heaviest rainfall is forecast to begin around 8 p.m. Friday, with the most severe conditions expected in eastern Ohio and counties west of Pittsburgh. Cities including Akron, Canton, and Cleveland face a 50–64% chance of receiving over half an inch of rain overnight. Gusty winds and hail are the primary severe weather threats.
In Pittsburgh and surrounding Allegheny County, the flood watch remains in effect due to rising levels along the Ohio River. The river is projected to crest near 18 feet Friday night before potentially rising again late Sunday into Monday. Flood stage is 22 feet.
Residents across the region should prepare for a wet and stormy weekend. Stronger storms are possible Saturday night into Sunday, and flood risks will persist into Monday afternoon.
Travelers are advised to avoid flooded roadways and monitor weather alerts. With widespread rain expected, especially in urban and low-lying areas, flash flooding could develop quickly.
