Pittsburgh, PA – Scattered thunderstorms could bring damaging winds and large hail to parts of western Pennsylvania and northern West Virginia Friday afternoon, with the highest risks centered southeast of the I-68 and I-79 junction.
According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a “Marginal Risk” (Level 1) of severe weather is in place for Friday, May 30, primarily impacting areas like Latrobe, Morgantown, and Wheeling. Rain chances spike between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m., with Latrobe facing a 75% chance of precipitation by 8 p.m. and Pittsburgh reaching 50% by 7 p.m. Storms may also bring localized flash flooding, particularly where rain falls in rapid succession.
Travel during the evening commute could be affected, especially along Route 30 near Latrobe and I-79 through Greene and Monongalia counties. Residents should ensure they have multiple ways to receive weather alerts and avoid low-lying or flood-prone roads during heavy downpours.
This weather marks the first organized severe event of the late spring in the region. Storms are expected to taper off overnight, but additional alerts may be issued if instability increases.
