Pittsburgh, PA – Strong thunderstorms and spring winds are expected to sweep across southwest Pennsylvania Tuesday, bringing damaging gusts and hail to the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, storms will likely develop Tuesday afternoon and evening with wind gusts reaching 37 mph and sustained speeds between 11 to 21 mph. There’s a 90% chance of precipitation, including isolated thunderstorms capable of producing small hail and brief heavy rainfall. Drivers along I-376 and I-79 should expect slick road conditions and reduced visibility during peak travel hours.

By Tuesday night, temperatures will dip into the upper 30s with winds shifting west and gusting up to 29 mph. A chance of showers remains overnight with a 40% chance of rain or a rain/snow mix, though no accumulation is expected. Winds will remain strong, particularly in exposed and higher elevation areas.

Wednesday offers a brief reprieve with partly sunny skies and a high near 50°F. However, unseasonably cool temperatures persist, dropping into the low 30s overnight. Clear skies will help calm conditions, followed by a warm-up later in the week.
