Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – Damaging wind gusts and flash flooding are on the table for Pittsburgh and surrounding areas Friday as strong thunderstorms push through western Pennsylvania.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe weather begins Friday afternoon and continues through Friday night. Damaging wind gusts are the main hazard, with isolated storms expected to develop after 2 p.m. and intensify into the evening. Flash flooding is possible where slow-moving storms form — particularly along low-lying areas and urban corridors like I-376 and Route 28.

Thunderstorms may redevelop late Friday night, continuing into early Saturday. Localized rainfall could reach a quarter inch or more, especially where storms train over the same area. Outdoor events and evening commutes should be planned with caution — residents are urged to monitor alerts and avoid water-covered roads.

Saturday brings more scattered showers and possible storms after 2 p.m., but skies begin to clear by Sunday. Slight chances of thunderstorms continue into Monday, with temperatures holding in the mid-70s. More organized rainfall could return Tuesday.

Stay weather-aware and keep mobile devices charged for alerts. Storm activity may shift as the front moves east.
