Pittsburgh, PA – Damaging winds and torrential rain could strike parts of western Pennsylvania today as another round of severe thunderstorms targets the region, bringing flash flood concerns and power outage risks.
According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, the entire forecast area remains under a Marginal Risk for severe weather through Thursday. The greatest threats include wind gusts of at least 58 mph from downbursts and excessive rainfall that may lead to localized flooding—especially in flood-prone and already saturated areas.
Counties like Fayette, Greene, and Westmoreland could see the highest chance of wind damage, with probabilities exceeding 60% in the southern tier. Pittsburgh and Allegheny County sit within the 30–44% range. Drivers along I-70 and I-76 should stay alert for rapidly changing conditions and potential debris or flooded roadways.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, charge devices, and avoid driving through high water. Conditions may develop quickly this afternoon into the evening.
Storm activity is expected to taper overnight, but additional watches or warnings could be issued if storms redevelop.
