Pittsburgh, PA – Dangerously cold temperatures are expected to grip much of Pennsylvania starting tonight, with conditions persisting through Wednesday morning. The National Weather Service issued a Cold Weather Advisory for Pittsburgh and surrounding regions, warning of wind chills as low as -10°F and even lower in higher elevations.
According to the National Weather Service, the most severe cold will occur late at night and early morning hours, with Wednesday forecasted as the coldest day of the week. Residents across western Pennsylvania should prepare for prolonged freezing temperatures, which could cause frostbite in less than 30 minutes and increase the risk of hypothermia.
Emergency officials are urging people to limit time outdoors, wear layered clothing, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Additionally, protect pets by keeping them indoors and prevent pipes from freezing by insulating or leaving a slow drip.
Major roads like I-79 and I-376 may experience icy conditions, particularly overnight. Travelers should exercise caution and monitor local updates for potential delays or closures.
Monday’s high is only 12°F, with overnight lows dropping to -1°F. Tuesday and Wednesday remain bitterly cold, with highs near 10°F and subzero wind chills continuing. Temperatures will finally rise above freezing by Thursday.
