Pittsburgh, Pa. – Strong winds and rounds of heavy rain could disrupt travel and flood low-lying areas across western Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio, and northern West Virginia on Thursday, as a marginal severe weather risk builds during the afternoon and evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a Level 1 severe risk has been issued for parts of Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia—primarily north and west of Morgantown—starting Thursday afternoon. Damaging wind gusts, large hail, and locally heavy downpours are the main threats. A separate Level 1 flood risk is also in place, especially for regions stretching from Dubois, Pa. down to Morgantown, W.Va.
Localized flooding could occur in areas that see repeated rounds of thunderstorms. Emergency managers urge residents to monitor alerts, especially in flood-prone zones. Drivers should avoid water-covered roads and prepare for reduced visibility during heavy rain. Secure loose outdoor items in advance of potential wind gusts.
The severe and flood threats are expected to taper overnight into early Friday, but additional rounds of rain may continue into the weekend. Stay tuned to local forecasts for updates or expanded advisories.
