Johnstown, Pa. – Snow-covered roads and wind gusts up to 45 mph are slowing traffic across central and western Pennsylvania early Monday, with higher elevations bracing for up to 6 inches before the storm tapers overnight.

According to the National Weather Service in State College, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 1 p.m. Monday for Sullivan, Lancaster, Lebanon and Schuylkill counties, where up to 1 to 2 additional inches of snow and wind gusts near 45 mph will keep roads slick through the midday hours. In Cambria and Somerset counties, including Johnstown and Somerset, the warning continues until 1 a.m. Tuesday, with up to 6 inches possible at higher elevations and gusts around 40 mph.

In western Pennsylvania, snow and blowing wind are reducing visibility along U.S. Route 219, the Pennsylvania Turnpike near Somerset, and Route 22 near Johnstown. The weight of wet snow combined with gusty winds could snap tree limbs and trigger sporadic power outages. Farther east in Lancaster and Lebanon counties, untreated secondary roads remain icy during the morning commute.

Officials urge drivers to delay travel if possible, check 511 for road conditions, and carry emergency supplies if travel is unavoidable. Warnings remain in effect through early afternoon in eastern counties and through early Tuesday in the Laurel Highlands, with additional advisories possible if snow bands redevelop.
