Erie, Pa. – Bursts of lake effect snow and gusty winds are set to make roads slick and visibility unpredictable across northwest Pennsylvania through early Wednesday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 5 a.m. Wednesday for Northern Erie and Crawford counties. Snow bands are expected to produce an additional 1 to 3 inches of accumulation, with wind gusts reaching up to 35 mph, leading to blowing snow and rapidly changing visibility.
Erie, Meadville, and Titusville could see the most variable conditions, where drivers may encounter sudden whiteouts followed by clearer stretches just miles apart. Bridges and overpasses will freeze first, increasing the risk of accidents during the Tuesday evening commute and overnight travel.
PennDOT urges motorists to slow down, allow extra travel time, and check 511PA for live roadway updates. Drivers should be prepared for sudden drops in visibility and keep emergency supplies in their vehicles.
Snow will taper toward early Wednesday, but icy patches may linger into the morning commute as temperatures hover near freezing.
