Pittsburgh, PA – A winter weather advisory is in effect for eastern Preston and Tucker counties as snow and high winds are forecasted to create hazardous travel conditions through Thursday morning. Up to five inches of snow is expected in higher elevations, with wind gusts reaching 55 mph along ridges.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Pittsburgh, the transition from rain to snow is predicted to begin this afternoon, dropping temperatures to the mid-30s. Residents in low-elevation areas could see gusts between 30 and 35 mph, compounding the challenges on roadways, including key stretches near U.S. Route 50 and Interstate 68. Snow squalls are likely overnight, which could reduce visibility and increase the risk of accidents.
By Thursday, daytime highs will remain around 27°F with wind chills plunging into the single digits by nightfall. The cold air will persist through the weekend, with partly sunny skies expected Friday and Saturday.
Travelers are urged to plan ahead and drive cautiously, especially in higher terrain areas. Keep an emergency kit in your vehicle and monitor local weather updates for sudden changes.
Spotter activation is not required, but residents should report any hazardous conditions to local authorities. Stay tuned for further updates as this system progresses.
