Philadelphia, PA – Thanksgiving travelers in Pennsylvania are facing treacherous weather conditions as snow blankets the Pocono Plateau and rain drenches lower elevations. A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for higher elevations, including areas near I-80 and Route 611, with untreated roads becoming slick and hazardous.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, snow began falling early Thursday and is expected to transition to rain by mid-morning. The heaviest snowfall of 1–2 inches is forecast for the Pocono Plateau, creating slippery conditions for holiday drivers. Motorists are urged to allow extra time, reduce speeds, and leave ample space between vehicles.
The rest of the state, including Philadelphia, will see periods of heavy rain through early afternoon with temperatures peaking near 53°F. Winds from the east will gust up to 25 mph, making umbrellas and rain gear essential for those venturing outside. Conditions are expected to clear by evening, with lows dropping to 34°F.
Looking ahead to Black Friday, sunny skies and a high of 46°F will greet shoppers, with calm northwest winds making for pleasant outdoor activities. The weekend forecast calls for mostly sunny skies Saturday, with a high of 38°F and lows near 26°F. Sunday remains bright but chilly, topping out at 38°F before dipping to 26°F overnight.
Plan ahead and stay informed as conditions evolve throughout the day. Monitor local weather updates and prepare for delays on snow-covered roads in northern Pennsylvania.
