Pittsburgh, Pa. – Severe thunderstorms are expected to roll into western Pennsylvania this afternoon, bringing a heightened risk of flash flooding, damaging winds, large hail, and even isolated tornadoes through 10 p.m. Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a Level 2 risk for both severe storms and excessive rainfall spans the region, with the greatest threat stretching east of a Mercer-to-Cambridge line. Heavy downpours may lead to localized flash flooding, particularly between noon and 10 p.m., as rainfall rates intensify. Urban areas, small streams, and low-lying roads are especially vulnerable.

Cities including Pittsburgh, Butler, Indiana, Clarion, and Latrobe may see wind gusts topping 60 mph and hail up to 2 inches. Power outages and travel delays are possible, especially during the evening commute. Emergency officials urge residents to monitor alerts and avoid flooded roadways. “Turn around, don’t drown” remains a critical reminder.

Residents should secure outdoor objects, charge devices, and have a way to receive warnings. Tornado potential remains low but not zero—particularly in counties like Clarion, Indiana, and Butler.

Storm activity is expected to taper off late tonight, but additional advisories may be issued if new cells redevelop. Stay weather-aware into the evening hours.
